Investigating Spatial Heterogeneity of the Environmental Kuznets Curve for Haze Pollution in China

چکیده

This study investigates the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) for haze in 31 cities and provinces across China using spatial data a period of 15 years, from 2000 to 2014. We utilized geographically weighted regression (GWR) model consider non-stationary characteristics air quality vast territory. approach allowed us verify region-specific characteristics, while global estimated average relationship entire nation. Although EKC was statistically significant models, results only confirmed existence an between overall economic performance. Thus, it difficult determine regional differences EKC. The GWR found variability each variable showed heterogeneity regions. six regions—Beijing, Gansu, Heilongjiang, Jiangxi, Jilin, Liaoning, Shanghai, Tianjin, Xinjiang, Zhejiang—showed inverted U-shaped EKCs, these were three big cities—Beijing, Shanghai. demonstrated no EKCs other 25 cities. These provide strong empirical evidence that there is China. more regionally specialized pollution control policy required create effective balanced growth

Urban Transport Pollution: Revisiting the Environmental Kuznets Curve

An inverted-U relationship between GDP per capita and three urban transport-related emissions is tested (using data from 84 cities). Per capita urban transport-related emissions of CO, VHC, and NOx increase and then decline at observed income levels—a result driven by a similar inverted-U relationship between income and emissions technology (i.e., emissions per passengerkm). However, for urban ...

The Environmental Kuznets Curve:

1. Introduction The environmental Kuznets curve is a hypothesized relationship between various indicators of environmental degradation and income per capita. In the early stages of economic growth degradation and pollution increase, but beyond some level of income per capita (which will vary for different indicators) the trend reverses, so that at high-income levels economic growth leads to env...

Deforestation in the Brazilian Amazonia and Spatial Heterogeneity: a Local Environmental Kuznets Curve Approach

There is a concern about the increasing pressure over the forest as economic growth increases. As for the Brazilian Amazon deforestation, there are noticeable intra-regional differences due to its occupation history, extensive area, economic structure and geographical aspects, inducing a strong spatial heterogeneity in this environmental phenomenon. This paper investigates locally the Environme...

Environmental Kuznets Curve

cointegration Classical regression analysis assumes that the error term in a regression is normally and independently distributed. An extreme violation of this condition is when the error term is a random walk. Such a regression is termed a spurious regression and the results are not reliable. It usually indicates that a required variable with random walk behavior has been omitted from the mode...

Confronting the Environmental Kuznets Curve

T he environmental Kuznets curve posits an inverted-U relationship between pollution and economic development. Kuznets’s name was apparently attached to the curve by Grossman and Krueger (1993), who noted its resemblance to Kuznets’s inverted-U relationship between income inequality and development. In the first stage of industrialization, pollution in the environmental Kuznets curve world grow...
